Police Volunteers (VIPS)

Working With the Community

The Lafayette Police Department is committed to working in partnership with our community to improve the quality of life in the City. This includes a dedication to solving community problems, reduction of crime, and preservation of laws, ordinances, and constitutional rights of all persons within our jurisdiction.

The Volunteer's in Police Service (VIPS) program was established to promote effective use of the many citizens of Lafayette who wish to donate their time and talents to further the goals of the department. This program was developed by the U.S. Department of Justice in association with the International Association of Chiefs of Police and was designed to address increasing demands on state and local law enforcement agencies.

Lieutenant Matt Gard, Community Outreach coordinator, supervises the VIPS program.  You can apply for future volunteer opportunities through this website, or contact Lieutenant Gard for further information.
