Learning Labs

Let the Zoo come to your classroom!  Learning Labs are education programs lead by a Zoo Educator visiting your classroom.  Each lab teaches students about wildlife and nature.  Labs are designed to meet state curriculum standards while being engaging, hands-on, and relevant for each student.  

Hellbender

Hellbenders & Watersheds

Compatible with Grades 4th-6th and HS Biology Curriculums

Learn about Indiana’s largest salamander, the hellbender! In this interactive program, students will gain an appreciation of their watershed and an understanding of how humans and wildlife rely on our rivers. The full program includes: 

  • A hands-on activity using a 3D printed topographic map of Tippecanoe County 
  • Interactive model of the local watershed.
  • Discussions on actions to protect river resources and ecosystems.
  • Meeting a live animal representing a local species.
