Advising the City on Legal Matters

Appointed by the mayor and working for and reporting to the city, our attorney:

  • Provides legal advice to the mayor, council, departments and boards
  • Drafts and reviews leases, ordinances, deeds, bonds, resolutions, contracts and other documents
  • Represents the city in litigation, administrative hearings and other legal matters
  • Helps negotiate complex agreements
  • Conducts legal research, renders opinions and interprets existing laws
  • Attends City Council, Board of Works, Redevelopment Commission and other meetings, as necessary
  • Institutes proceedings needed to protect city and/or public rights
